CLASSES OFFERED:
TAP 1 – For ages 5 - 18 – Come learn the basics of tap. As the students start to master the basic steps, they will progressively learn harder steps. The students will learn dance routines that will be incorporated in the showcase in May. – Instructor - Miss Lily – This class will meet Tuesdays from 4:00-5:00pm
MUSICAL THEATRE – For ages 5 - 18 – Learn the aspects of musical theatre one by one. We will break down how to express the character you are playing as you are singing and dancing. We will also work on acting exercises that will help you connect to your character. For the showcase, we will find short scenes and big dance numbers that showcase each of the performers to their strengths! – Instructors - Miss Lily, Miss Darci – This class will meet Tuesdays from 5:30-6:30pm
THE HISTORY OF MUSICAL THEATRE - PERFORMANCE BASED – For ages 5 - 18 – There are SO many musicals out there. There are different types of musicals. There are so many famous composers that every serious musical actor should know. In this class, we will be looking at musicals that have come LONG before these actors were born. We will be looking at the musicals that came first that paved the way for all these contemporary musicals to exist. We will be looking at musicals from different eras from the 1980’s on up. For the showcase, each of these students will pick a musical from days gone by that they love and they will get to perform a medley of songs from it as they introduce this musical to the public. – Instructor - Miss Darci – This class will meet Tuesdays from 7:00-8:00pm
PLAYWRITING 101 – For ages 10 - 18 – What makes a play? These students will first learn the basics of playwriting and all the parts it needs. They will learn how to structure and format a play. We will focus on finding each of the writers' processes and will explore many ways to be inspired to find new ideas to write about. For the showcase, the students will be writing a ten minute play, they will be creating characters for the actors we have in our scene study class. The writers will experience the collaboration of working with actors and directors. – Instructor - Miss Darci – This class will meet Thursdays from 4:00-5:00pm
SCENE STUDY 101 – For ages 10 - 18 – In this class, we will be looking at famous scenes from plays and breaking them down. We will look at different acting techniques and find new ways for the actors to find each character they play. For the showcase, we will directly be collaborating with the playwriting students by bringing their plays to life. They will be directed by the students in the directing class. – Instructor - Miss Darci – This class will meet Thursdays from 5:30-6:30pm
DIRECTING 101 – For ages 10 - 19 – The students will learn the basics of directing and how to make a scene come to life. We will start by looking at some famous plays and the students will have to find their own creative way to best direct a scene that also includes their own flair of style in it. They will learn what it means to “make a picture” onstage and how to make the scene visually appealing to look at. We will also be focusing on how to work and communicate with actors without directly telling them how to act. For the showcase, the directing students will be collaborating with the playwriting students by picking which play they connect to and would like to direct. They will be directing the scene study students in these scenes. – Instructor - Miss Darci – This class will meet on Thursdays from 7:00-8:00pm
PAYMENT:
Each semester is $138 for the first child – if they are registering for one class or all six.
Payment will be made in six monthly installments of $27.15
If you have two or more kids that are interested in the Academy, each additional child will be $12 monthly – so instead of paying $276 for two kids, it'd only be $150. And with each additional child, add $12.
TO REGISTER:
- Go under the SEASON PASSES tab at the top
- Select if you are going to register 1 child, 2 children, 3 children, 4 children or 5 children – please note - these kids MUST be siblings - not just friends
- Hit check out and fill out your child(ren)'s information
- Before you check out if you are buying a pass for multiple kids, you will be required to fill out a form that lists which kid will be registering for each class.
- Once you check out, you will receive a code from the pass.
- Copy and paste the code on the top of the REGISTRATION page
- Click on the BROADWAY KIDS ACADEMY CLASSES class
- Once on that page, you will now unlock the 6 classes.
- You may select as few or as many as you wish. It is all included in your monthly fee.
- If you are registering more than one kid, select the number of how many kids you are registering in each class (for example, if you are registering 3 kids and they all want to take TAP 1, you will select 3)
